No fewer than 14 persons were on Monday, December 13, burnt to death in a fatal motor accident along the Sampou community junction of the East-West road in Bayelsa State.

The latest accident happened about two weeks after another ghastly car accident claimed nine lives, including five members of the same family, along the Gloryland Drive, Igbogene in Yenagoa LGA.
It was gathered from authorities of the State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), that the cause of the accident was wrongful overtaking and over speeding.
Niger Delta Comnect also gathered that the accident, which occured at about 5pm, involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LND247XX and a Black Lexus Jeep with registration number KWL726GN.

Our correspondent learnt that 19 persons were involved in the accident and the 14 persons that died were burnt beyond recognition.
Five persons, three male and two female, were said to have survived the accident and are receiving treatment at the Kaiama General Hospital.
Meanwhile another accident, involving a drunk driver of a Toyota Camry saloon car lost control of the vehicle, along the PDP Road junction by Sani Abacha road in Yenagoa, and ran into a tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep and left him with a broken spinal cord.
According to an eyewitness, the accident, which occured around 9.45pm on Monday caused chaotic scene following near mob action against the driver of the vehicle.
“He was coming from the Azikoro end of the Sanni Abacha road. He was drunk and over speeding. He ran into a sand dumped by the side of the road and ran off to hit a keke and crushed other vehicles”, the eye witness said.
