Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has threatened that Nigeria will be no more if his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom is assassinated.
The fiery-speaking Wike further said President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Convress (APC) should be held responsible if anything happens to Governor Ortom.
Wike’s threat is coming on the heels of an alarm raised by Governor Ortom on Saturday, March 20, that gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, trailed him to his farm along Makurdi/Gboko Road.
According to Governor Ortom, he had to run for his dear life, adding that it took the prompt intervention of his security aides to repel the headers’ attack.
Ortom said the attack on his life was coming just a few days after the leadership of the Miyetti Allah group had declared that he was a thorn in their flesh and should be eliminated.
Governor Wike, who spoke through his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri said “if you assassinateg Governor Ortom, then be prepared to bury Nigeria. If anything happens to Ortom, the federal government should be held responsible and they should prepare that there will be no more Nigeria”, The Punch reports.
The Rivers State Governor further said the situation where the lives of sitting governors were being threatened was highly worrisome.
The level of insecurity in the country has been worsening, with bandits terrorising villages and kidnapping people, with female school children being the prime target.
Governor Wike’s comments are rather strong and it is not immediately clear how the federal government will react to it.
The Rivers State henchman has been talking tough in recent weeks as he has been attacking anybody who crosses his path. In the last two weeks he has slammed his predecessor and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Mungonu, among others.
