The former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, is set to contest the southern senatorial seat in the National Assembly in 2023.
A Facebook post on Thursday by Agboola’s Personal Assistant, Sam Ogunmusi, is seeking support for his senatorial aspiration.
Ogunmusi wrote in the post: “Taking a very bold step for Senate 2023: Hon Agboola Ajayi, immediate past Dep Gov of Ondo State for Senate, Ondo South Senatorial District. A very accomplished man in all sphere including politics, a goal getter, a man with a large and strong heart, he dares anybody for d good of his people, let’s rally round him for Senate, 2023 for d good of us all. Very dependable!!! The cap fits him more.”
Agboola was the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the October 10 gubernatorial election in the state.
This is coming months after the immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, and Hon. Agboola Ajayi, decamped to the opposition party.
The running mate of the ZLP’s candidate, Engr. Gboye Adegbenro, also joined the main opposition party then.
Supporters of Mimiko including former member of Representatives, Joseph Akinlaja, former speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, former Chief of Staff, Kola Ademujimi among others also joined the party.
However, it could not be ascertain if the Mimiko would contest for any position under the PDP come 2023, even up till now.
Recall that Mimiko first decamped from AD to PDP in 2003 and then from PDP to LP in 2006 before decamping back to PDP in 2014 and then to LP in 2016.
This latest defection makes it the third time he would join the PDP.
Mimiko who had served as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, returned to the party after his failed bid to ensure his ally, Agboola Ajayi who was the Deputy Governor under the incumbent Rotimi Akeredolu lost the October, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state.
