Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has listed some of the qualities of Nigeria’s next president, stating that the person must be a leader with a global perspective rather than a regional politician.
Tambuwal equally said Nigeria’s next president must be a leader must be someone who understands the best way to fight corruption is through personal example, must be incorruptible and be able to build strong institutions that can withstanding shocks and manipulations.
Governor Tambuwal, who doubles as the Chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP) Governor’s Forum, listed these qualities in a statement titled ‘‘2023 election: The leader Nigeria needs, by Tambuwal’’, made available to journalists in Abuja by his media office.
Governor Tambuwal said reducing the seemingly intractable security challenge is not rocket science, adding that what is required is commitment and deployment of the relevant tools.
According to him:
“There is no magic wand for reducing insecurity other than deploying relevant tools of good governance, proper technology, necessary military and police equipment, a well-trained and properly compensated manpower, and lowering tensions in the country through the enthronement of a government that serves all, not just a section or group”.
Tambuwal also noted that Nigeria needs a leader who realizes the imperatives of reforming the country’s security and governance framework.
“Finding such a leader is a task for all and I challenge you all today to find and support such a leader in 2023 so that Nigeria can begin the long walk back to peace, security and prosperity for all her citizens’’.
“Nigeria requires a diverse leader with contacts and associates across the country. Not a regional and provincial politician, but a leader with a global perspective’’.
The Sokoto State helmsman stated that Nigeria requires a leader who is aware of the times, a leader who is aware of the modern technological demands for tackling societal problems.
“We require an incorruptible leader who recognizes that the greatest approach to combating corruption is by personal example as well as the establishment of robust institutions capable of withstanding shocks and manipulations’’
