Campaign posters calling for support for Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo have flooded Osogbo, capital of Osun State, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Despite the fact that the posters did not indicate the position for which Osinbajo was running, they were headlined ‘Osinbajo for all 2023.’
The posters, which has the portrait of Osinbajo in black suit, were sponsored by a group dubbed ‘Osinbajo for All volunteer group’.
Residents of the state capital who saw the posters in places like Oke Onitea, Lameco Intersection, Dele Yes Sir intersection, Abere Bus stop, Ilesa Garage Junction, Oke Bale Junction, and Ataoja Palace gate, among others, speculated that they were put up in the early hours of the day.
When contacted, Peter Ogundeji, who described himself as the National Coordinator of the Osinbajo for All Volunteer Group, stated his organization was responsible for the campaign posters, but that the Vice President had not directed them to campaign for him.
It will be recalled that supporters of Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo under the aegis of Osinbajo Grassroots Organisation, have urged the incumbent Vice President to contest for the presidency come 2023.
Members of the group made the call at the second edition of Osinbajo Day that held on Sunday, August 8, in Abuja, with the theme: “Run, Osinbajo run: The future beckons”.
According to a statement, the group said, “we depict Osinbajo as a stabilizer and neutralizer who has been seen as the backbone to his boss; President, Muhammadu Buhari (retd) and to Nigeria as a whole.
Members of the group that were present at the event include a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hussain Coomassie, Advocacy for Good Governance, a retired veteran journalist; Akin Makanjuola, the Director-General and the Convener of OGO; Funsho Ojo.
The Convener of OGO, Funsho Ojo, in his speech titled: “Unhappy is the land that has no heroes” said the incumbent Vice President, Osinbajo has been chosen as their role model.
According to Ojo, “the project is a call for the celebration of a man we have adopted as our hero, role model, a man we are proud of and as young men and women, we can entrust our future unto his hand. It is for this reason and many more that we have chosen as personal sacrifice to build a movement around him”.
The group appealed to Vice President, Osinbajo to take up higher responsibilities, having worked diligently with President Buhari, adding that he should throw his hat into the ring and show the stuff he is made of.
