The campaign posters of former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, for the presidential election in 2023 on Thursday, December 2, resurfaced in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
The different and beautifully designed posters were seen in major roads within the capital city with different messages but all titled ‘GEJ 23, National Agenda for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’ and had the Coalition for better Nigeria 2023 as the undersigned.
Some of the messages on the posters read “GEJ 2023 go GEL WELL WELL, GEJ IS COMING BACK, EXPERIENCED AND READY”.
Those behind the posters are unknown but suspected to be people behind the call for the former president to take another shot at the presidency after losing the 2015 election to incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari.
There are speculations that some senior members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including governors of the party from the north, are interested in returning Jonathan and have assured him of the ticket of the party for the election.
According to sources in the party, Jonathan remains the only trusted person in the south that can fly the APC flag and have began to woo him to cross over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A chieftain of the APC from Bayelsa said the governors, most of whom played major roles in the defeat of Jonathan in 2015 are “trying to make peace with themselves by ensuring he returns to power in 2023”.
Jonathan, who recently turned 64, has been silent about his political future but there are indications that he may accept the offer to run if properly convinced of a smooth sail in the primary but his party of choice seems to be a major consideration.
