Bisi Omoniyi, a 25-year-old youth from Ogun State, was arrested for reportedly killing his 50-year-old competitor, Akinyemi Alani, during a fight over their joint lover.
The incident occurred in Ajilete town on Friday, October 15, when Omoniyi allegedly met the deceased in the residence of his lover, Kafayat Sakariyau.c
The command’s spokeswoman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the culprit was apprehended after police in Owode Egbado Divisional Headquarters got a distress call.
“The preliminary inquiry revealed that the victim, Akinyemi Alani, was in her apartment at Ajilete with the woman acquaintance, Kafayat Sakariyau”, he said.
Alani, who intended to spend the night with the woman, had already settled in Kafayat room, when another suspect who wanted to sleep with her, came knocking but was sent away.
Omoniyi, a resident of Okeodan’s Ibasa neighborhood, pushed his way into the woman’s chamber and confronted the deceased in a posture the suspect described as unacceptable.
As a result, they got into a struggle, and the suspect grabbed a cutlass from the room and macheted Alani to death. The deceased’s body has been transferred to the main hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the woman at the center of the incident has since fled.”
