Dankolo Timi, a 25-year-old man, has been held in custody by a chief magistrates’ court in Ogba, Lagos, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in the state’s Ajegunle region.

The culprit was arrested for reportedly defiling the girl and then robbing her ofN10,000, which was handed to her by her parents.

Theaccused was charged with defilement and stealing, and if convicted, he may face aminimum of 14 years in prison under Lagos State’s defilement legislation.
Bisi Ogunleye, the prosecutor, told the court that the accused took advantage of his collegial relationship and brought the girl into his room, where he had intimate relations of her.
“My Lord, as if that was not enough, the accused, took away the sum of N10,000 given to the girl by her parents. Pained by the actions of the accused, the girl went home and narrated what happened to her parents, who then reported the matter to the police in the area.
My Lord, consequently, the accused was arrested and detained by the police in Ajegunle. The accused was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for interrogation.
During interrogation, he admitted to have slept with the minor with her consent, an allegation which the girl denied,” the prosecutor made known in the court.
The prosecutor, Supol Bisi Ogunleye, sought the court to submit the case to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice, so the court did not accept his plea.

Mrs. E. Kubeinje, the presiding magistrate, ordered that the accused be held in custody, awaiting the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
