The Niger Delta Connect reported last week that Flutterwave will discontinue its virtual dollar card service, also known as Barter card, on July 17, 2022. The company announced this in a message to its customers.

This has put many Nigerians on the edge who rely on this channel for dollar transactions. It is difficult to use your regular bank debit card for international online transactions such as paying for Facebook ads, purchasing on Amazon, Google, Spotify, or even subscribing to Netflix.
Furthermore, with Nigerian banks’ $20 daily limit on international transactions, doing business internationally becomes nearly impossible. Surprisingly, the introduction of virtual cards has provided many Nigerians with a solution to this problem.
A virtual card has all of the features of a regular credit or debit card but is not physical. It is an online account, similar to a bank account.
Some virtual cards also provide cashback deals, allowing you to earn rewards on everyday purchases such as groceries or utilities.
