6 Div Nigerian Army Port Harcourt Celebrates WASA 2021

The 6 Division Nigerian Army Port Harcourt on Sunday held its West African Social Activities WASA 2021 with lot of cultural displays from various ethnic groups that makes up the formations.

The West African Social Activity, WASA, is an a-list social event of the army, meant to foster comradeship among the officers and men.

It is meant to celebrate the contributions of officers and men of the Nigerian Army in the defence of the country.

Speaking during the occasion as a special guest of honor, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike called on citizens to cooperate with the military on information dissemination in other to stamp down crime and criminality in the country.

Governor Wike, represented by the Secretary to the State Government,  Tammy Danagogo gave the charge during the West African Social Activities, stated that recently crime in the state has reduced and encouraged the military to put more efforts in the fight against crime, especially illegal refining products popularly called kpofire.

On his path, the General Officer Commanding and Land Component Commander Operations Delta Safe, Major General Olufemi Oluyede maintained that the military have achieved tremendously during last year and going forward will increase the tempo in actualizing the mandates.

Major General Oluyede state that the formations will also come up with modalities that will checkmate the challenges faced by the military to make Nigeria better.

Our correspondent reports that the event also puts to test the level of physical fitness of troops through a thug of war, presentation of awards to deserving officers and lighting of the bonfire to commenced the beginning of the New Year activity.

Recall that the Rivers State government had restated its commitment to support the Nigerian Army to achieved its core mandate in securing lives and properties within the area of responsibility.

The governor, Nyesom Wike, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo made this known during the 6 Division West African Social Activities WASA 2019 at the division headquarters in Port Harcourt.

He admonished the division on its professionalism and donated the sum of one hundred million to support the wives, children and officers of the division for their selfless duties in making sure crime is curb in the state.

Earlier, the General Commanding Officer and land component Commander Operation Delta Safe, Major General Felix Agugo said the WASA activity usher in the division into the new operational year, commending the government and people of the state for supporting the division to actualize its success story in 2019.

GOC assured that more achievement would be done in 2020 and commended the sister agencies for collaborating in achieving the operational success.

On her path, Seinye Lulu-Briggs seek the partnership of the division with the Lulu-Biggs Foundations in given the widows and children of falling hero’s a sense of belonging and promised free legal services to the widows of some deceased troops.

Mrs. Seinye also gave scholarships to 150 children of widows with 50, 000naira each and donated 200 bags of Rice and five million to widows of Military officers

She further promised to carryout medical outreach for widows, children, soldiers and Officers in the division.

Our Correspondent reports that cultural display from various tribes and lighting of Bonfire for the beginning of the new operational activity were amongst other activities showcased at the event.
