The suspended General Manager of Imo Zoological Garden and Wildlife Park, Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, Francis Abioye has said the unknown gunmen who abducted his wife, Elizabeth are yet to contact his family.
Elizabeth was abducted at First Baptist Church, Wetheral Road Owerri, the Imo State capital on Sunday, July 10 while communing with God and other brethren during an evening service of the church.
Abioye told our correspondent via WhatsApp that the abductors were yet to contact him or any member of the family five days after the incident.
According to him, the refusal of the abductors to contact the family has thrown the family into confusion as no one knows whether Elizabeth is still alive or not.
He said; “It’s five days today after my wife was taken away and her captors have not made any contact with me or any member of the family.
“We don’t know the condition of my wife now. I plead with the security agencies to help us.”
Abioye was recently asked to proceed on compulsory leave by the Imo State Ministry of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts, the supervisory ministry of the Imo Zoological Garden and Wildlife Park, Nekede.
The GM is said to have been indicted by several panels set up by the government over his alleged mismanagement of the zoo.
A government source told our correspondent that Abioye locked up his office and left Imo State without handing over to the Acting General Manager of the zoo.
The spokesman of the state police command, CSP Michael Abattam was quoted as saying that the police had arrested a suspect in connection with the abduction of Elizabeth.
The police spokesman however gave not further details about the matter.
