The joy of the people of Usaka Ukwu Ndeokoro, Ndieke and Upa communities in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, knew no bound, as their communities for the first time got power supply after over twenty years of being in total darkness.
The rural electrification project which was attracted by the member representing the constituency at the Federal House of Representatives was the first time the communities would have power supply, after failed attempts by some political offices holders in the area.
Speaking with the press, some of the indigenes, lauded the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Sam Onuigbo for attracting electrification project to the communities.
One of the indigenes, Mazi Joe Irohibe, said the communities had been in total darkness for years, until the Reps member, Chief Sam Onuigbo, attracted a transformer for electricity over a year ago.
Mazi Irohibe said, “We are applauding Onuigbo for attracting this project, we are happy about the electrification project, because it is the first of its kind in this our community, right from the day we saw light here.
“We feel that we are in the map of the world now through this project, as the project has been helping our young men who are mainly artisans to do their job.”
Irohibe, further urged the federal government to embark on more infrastructural projects in the rural communities to reduce rural urban migration.
The Regent of Ikemba Autonomous community, Chief Emmanuel Iroegbu, lauded Onuigbo, for his effective representation to the people.
According to him, the project has brought joy to the benefitting communities, adding that they are very happy with the law maker.
Chief Sam Onuigbo, however, said he applied for the project through the Rural Electrification Agency of the Federal Government after consulting with the communities concerning their pressing needs.
The Lawmaker expressed happiness that the project was actualized on record time, commending the beneficiaries for cooperating with the contractors who handled the project while it lasted.
Onuigbo further assured the indigenes of the communities that he would continue to work tirelessly to attract more projects to the communities under his constituency.
