Again Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has addressed insinuations making the rounds regarding his possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that he does not plan leaving the party any time soon and more so, there is nothing the APC will give to him that the PDP cannot offer.
Governor Ikpeazu who made the disclosure during the commissioning of the First Phase of the Umuobiakwa-Owo Ahiafor Road in Obingwa LGA, which had in attendance the Chairman and members of the PDP National Working Committee among other party stakeholders.
He discredited the rumours of possible defection from the PDP and made it clear that he remains a strong member of the party and as such, will not pitch tent with any other political party.
Ikpeazu noted that he has not lost touch with his kinsmen who he said form part of the reason for his continued stay in the PDP, adding that he will not allow his personal ambition and aspiration to becloud the wish of the people who voted him into power.
His words: “Permit me to address a very diversionary issue. The issue of PDP and other parties. BOT Chairman, these are my people my kinsmen and this people say that they are in PDP. How can I be in another place and my people will be in another place.
“I want to say to you, Chairman of BOT that we are in PDP for two reasons. One is because this is where our people are. The next reason is that there is nothing that I’m looking for that PDP cannot offer.
“If I allow my personal ambition and aspiration to becloud the wish of my people, then the only definition for me is the definition of a selfish person.
“Therefore as a leader, I can only be a leader when I have people that I am leading. A bishop without cathedral is not a bishop. Therefore I will remain and build my cathedral where the people are and it is in this party called PDP.”
The Governor said he would cease from addressing the issue henceforth. “Because we are running a free democracy where people can say all kind of things, I give it to them that it is right for people to wish that I run with them. I have great friends in other parties but I say to them, let them see what is good in the party where I am. Permit me to put to bed the issue of whether I am in PDP or in any other party.”
Commissioning the first Phase of the 5 kilometer Umuobiakwa-Owo Ahiafor Road, the Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibril, who is on a working visit with his team in Abia said contrary to insinuations that nothing is happening in Abia, the board is shocked with what is on ground in the state.
Describing Governor Ikpeazu as a progressive, visionary leader, the BOT Chairman applauded Governor Ikpeazu for his efforts at giving Abia a face lift, adding that the PDP will always support him.
The event attracted the presence of political stakeholders, and government functionaries including the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, Member Representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Solomon Akpulonu and his Obingwa West counterpart, Thomas Nkoro among others.
