Veteran Nollywood actress and film producer, Ego Boyo has chastised filmmakers who are eager to remake classic films but end up producing mediocre results.
This comes just hours after Glamour Girls, a 1994 classic, was released on Netflix.
Without mentioning names, the veteran actress took to Twitter to rebuke such filmmakers, claiming that they should leave movie classics alone if they can’t do the work to make them worth watching.
The remake of the 1994 Nollywood blockbuster, which was acquired by Play Network Africa’s CEO, Charles Okpaleke, was recently released on Netflix.
The film received numerous negative reviews, with some claiming that Play Network Africa should stop remaking classic Nollywood films.
Okpaleke has a passion project of remaking classic Nollywood films such as Living in Bondage and Nneka The Pretty Serpent, so Glamour Girls is not his first rodeo.
Ego Boyo tweeted: “#leaveourclassicsalone or at least do the work to make them worth watching”.
