One person has been confirmed dead while another injured in fatal accident involving a Tricycle operator and mack truck driver along IBB way, near Women Development Centre, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
An eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent in Uyo on condition of anonymity said the incident occurred on Monday, October 25, 2021 when the tricycle in an attempt to avoid the bad portions of the IBB road rammed into the stationary Truck leading to immediate death of the female passenger who was sitting in front of the tricycle.
His words, “the Kekeman was trying to avoid those bad portions of the road and may be he did not see the truck that was parked there, he jammed the truck. The lady that was sitting in front died at the spot while the driver sustained injuries.”
The source decried the bad state of the road and untold hardship that motorists face while playing the road especially during this raining season and called on government to intervene to assuage the plight of the people.
“The state of IBB road is very disheartening. The flood in this area is just too much and there are many broken portions that should be remedied. Those concerned should look into our plight and see how to address the issue”, he said.
Also the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Matthew Olonisaye, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, saying the cause of the accident was as a result of brake failure.
He, therefore, advised vehicle owners to take the maintenance of their vehicles seriously, stressing that the command would not take it lightly with vehicle owners who compromise on that.
