In Awka, the state capital, men from the Anambra state police command has detained a pastor for allegedly defiling a twelve-year-old girl.
The suspect, who also works as a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, has been charged of defiling the minor who has been staying with him since Saturday being April 2.
The kid, identified as Uju Okafor from Ufuma in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, said she leaped down from a two-story structure at 9:30 p.m.on Wednesday because she couldn’t handle the agony of rape and broke her leg in the process.
The girl, who is being treated at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka, said her mother had sent her to a woman who took her to the pastor’s house last Saturday to help him clean because his family members were not around.
She claimed that after doing her work that day, she retired to the room assigned for her to sleep in, and that the clergyman then entered and allegedly began sexually harassing her.
Uju claimed that he exposed his manhood and forced it into her body. She stated that she began to cry because it was quite painful.
She claimed she was harassed again the next day when the priest allegedly tried to force her to suck his genitalia. He allegedly beat her up after she refused him.
Chinwe Okafor, the victim’s mother, verified her daughter’s description of what happened and demanded that justice be served.
DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, a state police public relations officer, confirmed the report, saying the suspect is in custody and the investigation is proceeding.
