Angry youths has burned to death five accused kidnappers along Afuze-Uokha Road in Edo State’s Owan West Local Government Area.
The gunmen are claimed to have ambushed and kidnapped some travelers, taking them into the jungle.
The kidnappers, on the other hand, ran out of luck when vigilantes apprehended them and dragged them out of the woods.
When the suspects were discovered, the villagers hauled them away from the vigilantes and lynched them.
According to a source who told Niger delta connect news, the kidnappers dragged the tourists into the woods without realizing that vigilantes had been alerted to the crime and had mobilized to hunt them down.
The kidnappers would have been contacting the families of the abducted travellers to ask for ransom but for the bravery of the vigilantes,” the source added.
Kontongs Bello, a spokesman for the state police command, acknowledged the occurrence and said that an inquiry was ongoing.
He said, “After the kidnap, the vigilantes went in search of the criminals and apprehended them in the bush. As they were coming out on their way to a police station, angry youths in Uokha and adjoining towns took away the suspected kidnappers from the vigilantes. All efforts to get the suspects to the police proved abortive, as they were burnt to death.”
