The failure of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Convention Planning Committee to start the screening of aspirants for the Zonal and National leadership positions of the party a few days to its March 26, 2022 scheduled National Convention is causing fresh anxiety among members of the party.
According to the timetable and schedule of activities released by the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, zonal aspirants were scheduled to be screened on Saturday, March 19, while those aspiring for positions of the National Working Committee, were to appear before the screening committee yesterday, but the exercise could not hold because members of the screening committee were absent at the venue of the screening, Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
An aspirant for national chairmanship position and former governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura expressed concern and disappointment over the poor implementation of the pre-convention programme.
Al-Makura, who spoke through the Director-General of his Campaign Organization, Dominic Alancha, lamented that the aspirants were yet to receive any official information from the party on when to appear before the screening committee.
Reacting to speculations that the party leaders were planning to raise a unity list, he stated that unity list is democratic, but before a unity list can be released, the critical stakeholders must be carried along.
He explained that in a situation where the critical stakeholders are not even aware of what is happening concerning unity list, it could be difficult to achieve that especially when aspirants have purchased their forms.
He, therefore, expressed doubt over the emergence of a unity list, noting that aspirants cannot be doing their mobilization and one is talking of unity list without carrying them and other people along.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has so far raked in N140 million from the purchase of nomination forms by seven aspirants that are vying for the national chairmanship position.
In a related development, the APC South East stakeholders have now resolved its micro-zoning arrangement hurdle, as they have reserved the highest national position of the party for the zone to Enugu State.
