A lawmaker in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Dr. Daniel Charles, says attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remove him from office following his recent defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is an exercise in futility.
The APC had dragged the lawmaker to court after his defection to the PDP requesting the court to mandate the Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere-led Bayelsa State House of Assembly to declare his seat vacant.
The party had argued that the lawmaker was elected on its platform and since he has left the party it is wrong for him to continue to enjoy the Brass Constituency 1 seat in the assembly.
The matter which came up on Friday at the Federal High Court, Yenagoa, for hearing was later adjourned to October 11 for further hearing.

Speaking to newsmen after the court’s sitting, the lawmaker said: “From today’s proceedings, we are confident and sure of victory, just like we have always been victorious in court and elections.
“We are, however, calling on our brothers on the other side (APC) to sheathe their swords and embrace peace, so that we can move Brass Constituency 1 forward.
“They should put the past behind them and come for us to work together. Nothing good can come out of court cases. We have all been involved in one way or the other. We were involved even in their court cases.
“Therefore, we can never be intimidated by them. But if they agree to come together, we are willing to join forces with everybody to move the entire Constituency forward and ensure that the future is very bright and promising for all of us.
“Nevertheless, if they desire to continue with the litigation process, then we have no other choice but to continue with the legal battle and defeat them like we always do.
“It is an election we won, clean and clear. The Twon Brass people and our brothers and sisters from Cape Formosa massively supported us to win this election. And here are people trying to sabotage it through the influence of their leader from another constituency.
“Of course, their ploy will not stand and we will resist it vehemently. We will not allow evil to thrive again in Brass Constituency 1”, he added.
