Ahead of its national convention, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has picked September for its local government area congresses.
Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, the National Secretary of the party’s Caretaker/Evtra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee, announced this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, August 13, 2021.
According to the statement, the APC caretaker committee scribe said :
“Reports in various sectors of the media that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extra ordinary’s Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has indefinitely suspended Local Government Area (LGA) and State Congresses are false”.
It will be recalled that some states had court orders restraining them from holding the ward congresses as a result of suits instituted by some aggrieved members of the party.
The ward congress did not hold in Abuja, the federal capital territory due to the November council election coming up.
The ward congress did not also hold in Imo and Bayelsa States because of some aggrieved members who served high court order restraining the states from conducting their ward congresses.
Every other state has successfully conducted their ward congress and are now warming up for the local government and state congresses as well as the national convention.
The statement read in part:
“Following the recent inauguration of Ward Congress Appeal Committees, the official information from the party was that the dates and guidelines for the LGA Congresses would be set after the Ward Congresses Appeal exercise, which would be followed by the CECPC giving due consideration to the Appeal Committee’s reports.
“LGA Congresses have been provisionally scheduled for the first week of September 2021 by the CECPC.
“On behalf of CECPC Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni, we reassure our thronging party followers, members, and leaders of our unwavering commitment to credible, transparent, and participatory congresses leading up to our great party’s National Convention.”
