The All Progressives Congress, APC, barring any last minute changes, is scheduled to formally unveil its Vice Presidential Candidate to the Nigerian public today.
The party, in a statement endorsed by its National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, listed the category of persons invited to the event, which they described as landmark official unveiling of the great party’s presidential running mate.
The invitees include all the members of the National Executive Committee, members of the Progressives Governors Forum, PGF, members of APC Caucus in the National Assembly, members of the Federal Executive Council, members of the diplomatic corps, all presidential aspirants at the June 2022 special national convention, state chairmen and other state executives of the party.
Speaking on the choice of Kassim Shettima as the presidential running mate of the party, the Director, Media and Communications of Tinubu Campaign Organization, TCO, Bayo Onanuga, said that both religion and ethnicity was far from the calculations of the APC and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in picking his running mate.
According to him, if Tinubu intended to appeal to the base instincts of religion, he would have picked a candidate in the Christian dominated parts of Nigeria, and if he wanted to cash in on ethnicity, he would have selected a running mate from the North West of Nigeria, which has the highest number of registered voters.

But because there were no such considerations, Tinubu decided to pick a tested politician and technocrat from the minority Kanuri ethnic group from the North East because the factors at play were issues germane to confronting the multi-dimensional crisis the country is currently faced with.
He emphasized that what should be important to Nigerians today and tomorrow is their commonwealth as citizens of this great nation.
