Suspected bandits reportedly invade the residence of Damishi Sangoa, a former Minister of Sports and Youth Development and kill a police officer on the spot of the attack at Ganawuri Kingdom in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The ugly incident occurred at the laye hours of Wednesday, March 31, according to a member representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Timothy Dantong, the incident was one of the numerous attacks and killings in recent times in Riyom council.
It was gathered that two others suffered varying degree of injuries during the attack, another officer and a civilian.
The state police Public Relations officer ASP Gabriel Ubah Ogaba, while confirming the incident to newsmen stated that the two police officers were serving as security details at the residence.
He added that the victims have been rushed to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment while the body of the deceased policeman had been deposited at the mortuary of the hospital awaiting autopsy.
He said that a combined team of detectives and intelligence officers had already commenced investigation and manhunt of the criminals, stressing that the former minister and his family were not hurt.
Speaking further, he said, “I am not aware of policemen being dispossessed of their rifles by the bandits. The Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, just left the scene of the incident,” The guardian quoted him saying.
