No fewer than 13 persons have been reportedly killed in a fresh attack in Damaga community, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to reports, the ugly incident heightened fears as students, who were studying at a secondary school in Damaga community, scampered for safety.
Residents told newsmen that dozens of unidentified armed men arrived in motorcycles and opened fire immediately.
“They arrived at the community around 1 p.m. and started shooting at the people. Students were taking lessons at the Day Secondary School in the community but on sighting the armed criminals, they abandoned the classrooms and scampered for safety”
According to Daily Trust, a resident, identified as Musa Damaga, said:
“As I’m talking to you, the bodies of the victims are being recovered and we have concluded arrangements for their burial,” Daily Trust quoted a resident identified as Musa Damaga while speaking”.
Residents of Zamfara State now live in constant fear due to the persistent attack of terrorists, locally known as bandits.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had declared a no-fly zone and also banned mining activities in the state as part of a synergy to curb the lingering insecurity challenge confronting the state.
The president had also given the bandits an ultimatum to surrender but the bandits have refused to relent in their attacks.
