Persons suspected to be bandits have killed five people, burnt nine houses, three vehicles in Madamai village in Kagoro Chiefdom, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Rhoda Abdullahi, Councillor representing her district, who is also a resident in the area, told newsmen that unknown gunmen got into the village on Sunday at night-time and started shooting intermittently, while the villagers ran for their lives.
Rhoda stated that five persons identified as Janet Yakubu, Gambo Yakubu, Jonathan Adamu, Mrs Monday and Humphrey Barnabas were killed.
When contacted by newsmen, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, was not available to pick calls and could not respond to text messages sent to him for confirmation.
However, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who reacted to the occurrence, has condemned the constant violence and gruesome killings in the area.
She pleaded with the residents of Madamai to stay calm and directed security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the incident.
In related news, Bandits have attacked Zamfara college, killed security officers, and abducted an unconfirmed number of students.
The Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the popular college of Agriculture, Bakura, in Zamfara State and abducted an unspecified number of students.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday night when the gunmen attacked the school premises shooting irregularly, before whisking the victims away.
It was also gathered that some security personnel working in the area, got into a gun battle with the bandits, which resulted in the death of some security officers.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Muhammed Shehu confirmed the unfortunate incident.
Muhammed Shehu, who was unable to give details of the attack said the command would “issue a statement later”.
Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly also confirmed the incident through his social media handle on Monday morning.
The tweet reads, “We woke up with tragic news of mass abductions of students and staff at the college of Agriculture Bakura, Zamfara state yesternight. That the bandits also killed some security personnel.Another tragedy. Budget upon Budget for defence; Where are our security apparatuses?”.
