After spending 3 days at the Okaka Correctional facility in Yenagoa, a former General Manager of the Bayelsa State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Bayelsa), Dr. John Idumange on Monday regained his freedom.
Idumange was last Thursday arraigned in a Magistrate court in Yenagoa for criminal defamation and seditious publication on the social media against some officials of the state government concerning a N3 billion Agricultural loan.
He was arrested a day earlier at the gate of a Yenagoa-based radio station, Royal FM, when he went to honour the station’s invitation to discuss the controversial loan.
Our correspondent gathered that the legal representatives of the embattled activist had gone back to court today to seek for bail, insisting that the offence for which he was charged was bailable.
After listening to their argument, the presiding Magistrate, A.B Mirinn Johnson
granted him bail with the sum of N10,000 and two surety in like sum and asked that he returns on the 30th of this month.
Membere of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), led by Chief Nengi James were on hand to perfect his bail conditions alongside other activists.
Chief Nengi James who stood as one of the sureties confirmed that “Dr John Idumange was released from Okaka Correctional Centre at 5.10 p.m on Monday, the 15tth March , 2021…CLO was on Ground”.
