The Bayelsa State Government has called on Transport Unions and Motor Park Operators along the Tombia/Amassoma road to maintain the fixed transport fares which was agreed by all stakeholders.
The Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Grace Ekiotenne in a statement on Monday, directed the transporters to stay with the agreement reached on the 8th of last month during a meeting between them and top officials of her ministry.
The statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kojo Ebi Omietimi, stated that due to the purported increase in the pump price of fuel it was necessary to draw the attention of the transporters to keep to their end of the agreement.
This according to her, will enhance the existing peace in the transport system and the state at large.
The Commissioner maintained that all fares on the Tombia/Amassoma route should still remain as earlier agreed: Two hundred naira (N200.00) only for Coaster buses, Three hundred naira (N300.00) only for 18-Seater buses, Four hundred naira (N400.00) only for Sienna and Five hundred naira (N500.00) only for Taxi.
She noted that loading of all passengers in vehicles should be done at either the NDU Park or the Local Government Park in Amassoma as previously agreed.
She warned against overloading of vehicles with passengers with the excuse of unavailability of vehicles, and urged drivers to adhere strictly to the specified number of seats.
