After four victories in the campaign, Yenagoa-based Bayelsa United, led by former junior international Moses Aduku, were forced to wait until the last day of the NWFL Premiership Super Six play-off to be declared winners.

Gift Monday scored the first goal for Bayelsa United, but Amoo Basirat equalized for the ‘Solid’ Babes in the 18th minute with a well-taken free-kick that past Onyinye Okeke in goal.

In the 23rd minute, Bayelsa United restored the lead with another Monday goal via a fantastic header. Previously, Bayelsa United defeated defending champions Rivers Angels 2-1 in their first game, then blasted Naija Ratels 4-0 on Matchday two, Edo Queens 2-0, and Delta Queens 1-0 on Matchday four.

At the conclusion of the competition, NWFL chairperson Aisha Falode thanked stakeholders for their support of the league in 2022, particularly “Tulcan Energy Resources, Peculiar Ultimate Concerns, and the Edo State government”.

“We must forget all the stakeholders who made it happen”, she said of the season’s success. The NWFL is quickly becoming a great brand, and I am confident that it can only grow better.”

Individually, Monday was named top scorer and MVP after scoring 12 goals, three during the regular season and eight during the NWFL Premiership Super 6.

Ange Gabrielle Bawu of Bayelsa Queens received the best goalie of the season title for her saves throughout the season.

Tulcan Energy Resources and Peculiar Ultimate Concerns were also honoured with special recognition awards for their contributions to the NWFL Premiership.
