The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC), has confirmed that the May 14, 2022 date for the local government council polls will hold as earlier schedule.
Chairman of the commission, Hon. Ball Oyarede disclosed this at a news conference in Yenagoa on Thursday.
He apologized for the suspension of activities earlier announced by the commission, adding that they are now ready to conduct a free and fair election at the grassroot.
“I wish to inform the general public that the Local Government Council Elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, 14th May, 2022 across the Eight (8) Local Government Areas in the State, will still hold.
“However, in view of the apparent conflict of the date of the said Elections with the time table of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), wherein all registered Political Parties are mandated to conduct its primary elections in line with Section 91 (1) of the Bayelsa State Local Government Law, 2000 (as amended), to ensure orderliness.
“To this end, the Commission, BYSIEC will notify the general public, particularly Stakeholders of the new date for the conduct of the Local Government Council Elections, as other activities so far accomplished by Political Parties in line with the earlier time table and guidelines issued by the Commission remain valid.
“The Commission deeply regret all inconveniences arising from this new development. Please, accept the esteemed best regard of the Commission”, he said.
