Two goals on each half by Bina Tombiri and Favour Martins was all Bayelsa United needed to give them a comfortable victory against Abia Comets at the Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa on Sunday.
It was a match day seven, group B2 tie of the Nigeria National League (NNL) and the Yenagos side lived up to expectations from its home fans.
Midfielder, Tombiri shot the host team into the lead in the 11th minute from a well utilized cross and striker Okardi Inikurogha could have made it 2 in the 18th minute but failed to convert a one on one opportunity with Abia Comets goalkeeper Salami Kelvin as he shot wide.
The introduction of Ebitimi Agogu for Nantuam Clement and Beniangba Victory for Bina Tombiri by United’s technical adviser, Diprieye Teibowei was magical as it yielded the desired result.
Shortly after the twin change, Ifeanyi Amaobi brought down Victory in the eighteen yard box and Martins sent Abia Comet goalie Salami Kelvin the wrong way to make it 2-0 on the 81st minute.
With the victory, Bayelsa United now has ten points from six games, winning three, registering two loses and a draw and will travel to Ole, Delta State to take on Holy Arrows in their next game while Abia Comet will be on standby.
Coach of Abia Comets, Bethel Orji told journalists after the game that despite the loss, he was impressed with the performance of his players and described Bayelsa United and Remo Stars as the best in group B2.
He admitted that the defeat was as a result of lack of concentration in the first half while the second half was due to tactical indiscipline by his boys.
On his part, technical adviser of Bayelsa United, Diprieye Teibowei said he was okay with the victory but assured that all the mistakes recorded will be corrected in their next game.
