Bayelsa United on Saturday, October 2, played out a goalless draw against two-time African Champions, Enyimba International of Aba at the Samson Siasia, Stadium, Yenagoa.
The warm up game was used to intensify preparations ahead of the first leg, second round fixture against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.
The Prosperity Boys, as they are also called, who are Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, defeated Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea 4-2 on September 19 in a one-legged game in Yenagoa, to set up an encounter with their Tunisian counterparts.
Dangerous forward, Robert Mizo made a return to the squad after missing the Ashanti Golden Boys tie due to injury, in the absence of Victory Beniangba and Emo James who is on national assignment with the under-23 squad.
Midfield maestro, Favour Martins had a two to one opportunity to beat Enyimba back line on 29 minutes but was blocked by Nabil Yarou and few minutes later Sadiq Abubakar tested United’s goalkeeper, John Shaibu but his effort went wide.
The duo of Victor Mbaoma and Fatai Abdullahi twice hit the woodwork after a clumsy error from the hosts as man of the moment, Okardi Inikurogha responded immediately from Zikala Tobin’s cross with the ball flicked away by Olorunleke Ojo.
It was substitute Bina Tombiri who came in for Edwin Ayiba that deflected a shot that could have been the highlight of the encounter but that was saved by Enyimba safe hands.
After the encounter, Technical Adviser of Enyimba, Findi George commended his side for their determination in the game, adding that there are positives from the friendly, describing Bayelsa United team as a solid side.
On his part, Bayelsa United Technical Adviser, Diepreye Teibowei said that he was pleased with the performance of his boys against an experienced Enyimba team, pointing out that he expects improved outing in key areas before the Sfaxien tie.
He said the duo of Emo James and Victory Beniangba would be available against CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup.
