Bayelsa United on Sunday secured a 4-0 victory over visiting Remo Stars of Ogun State with star striker, Robert Mizo getting a brace for the home side.
Mizo’s two first half goals and one each from Emo James and Atiki Egbe sealed the victory for United in a match day two game of the Nigeria National League (NNL) decided at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa.
James gave the Bayelsa side the lead on the 23rd minutes after a Mizo rebound effort to go past Remo Stars Fc goalkeeper Okeshina Oluwaseun.
Mizo doubled the lead for the host on the 33rd minute through a cross from midfielder, Favour Martin and doubled it 3 minutes later.
Defender, Atiki Egbe who is on his debut season for the club, just before the first half break, joined the attack to score his first goal for the Yenagoa based side.
In a bid to come back into the game, Remo stars attempted to reduce the goals few minutes into the second half but Issiaka Ogoubiye blocked Yusuf Ibrahim 20 yard shot.
With the victory, Bayelsa United is now three points same with Remo Stars and Bendel Insurance who defeated Joy Cometh by 2-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium on Saturday.
United will travel to Uyo on Wednesday for their next game against Ibom Youths while Remo Stars will be at Ikenne, Ogun state to entertain Abia Comets of Umuahia on the same day.
Technical adviser of Bayelsa United, Diprieye Teibowei told journalists after the match that his boys were determined to get the result, and they did because they played to specific instructions.
Head coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogumodede said the home side were better on the day, as they took their chances and though they came back stronger in the second half, his boys failed to convert their chances.
Two goals hero, Robert Mizo appreciated God for the opportunity to score twice and promised to keep scoring in order to return Bayelsa United to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the end of the season.
