Bayelsa United Goalkeeper, Issiaka Ogoubiye was the hero of the day in the match day three encounter between his side and host, Ibom Youth in the Nigeria National League Southern Conference B2 game which ended in a goalless draw at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.
Ogoubiye who is yet to concede a goal this season from an open play saved two spot kicks from Joseph Bassey and Victor Ifiok on the 70 and 77 minutes when the centre referee awarded the penalty to the host after a clumsy challenge by Beniangba Victory right inside the eighteen yard box.
United who thrashed Remo stars Fc 4-0 at the weekend, almost took the lead in the first half through Okardi Inikurogha and Robert Mizo brilliant combination but it went wide .
Star man from the last game, Robert Mizo, Beniangba Victory, and Okardi Inikurogha had opportunity to give united a sealed victory few seconds to the end of the encounter but their effort was cut short by the refree’s final whistle.
Bayelsa United now has four points, having won one game, lost one and drawn one and will face another Akwa Ibom State side, One Rocket on Sunday at the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa.
Coach of Ibom Youth, Emmanuel Itu said luck wasn’t on their side as it was unbelievable that they could not convert two penalties.
An excited Technical Adviser of Bayelsa United, Diprieye Teibowei said the draw gives his side the courage to go into the next game and described the performance of his shot stopper Ogoubiye in the three games played so far as world class.
Speaking in French, Man of the Match, Issiaka Ogoubiye said he was confident that he will stop both penalties and he did effortlessly.
He added that his interest is to see his side in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the end of the current NNL season.
