Bendel Insurance FC on Saturday defeated Bayelsa United 3-1 in matchday ten encounter in group B2 of the Southern conference of the Nigeria National League (NNL), played at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City.
An early goal by Elijah Simon in the second minutes of the game gave Insurance the lead but Robert Mizo levelled scores for Bayelsa United four minutes later.
Sarki Ismail added another for the host from what could have passed for an offside position but was ignored.
Despite the introduction of Victory Beniangba for Animashaun Lateef and Timothy Zuobemi in place of Favour Martins by Coach Diprieye Teibowei, the
hosts increased the tally, in the 75 minutes.
With the result, Bendel Insurance moved to seventeen points after nine games and will now travel to Umuahia to face Abia Comets while Bayelsa United who currently occupy the fourth position with fourteen points will confront Joy Cometh of Lagos.
Our correspondent reports that the game witnessed grose violation of COVID 19 protocols as over three hundred supporters of Bendel Insurance stormed the stadium to cheer them.
