Bayelsa State Government have advised people of the state to take advantage of its numerous programmes and policies that have been designed to empower them.
The government also called on the people to revive the spirit of entrepreneurship in order to benefit from lots of interventionist schemes to enhance their living standard and boost the state’s economic fortunes.
The Director General of the Bayelsa State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (BYMEDA), Mr. Woyengikuro Daniel made the call on Tuesday, September 7, while speaking to journalists in his office at the Transparency Building, Ox-bow Lake Road in Yenagoa.
The Director General noted that the Micro, Small and Medium enterprises subsector is a major employer of labour and a booster of economic fortunes of individuals and nations.
Mr. Woyengikuro added that leaving business activities for non-indigenes could close windows of opportunities the sector offers indigenes, particularly now that the policies of the Prosperity Administration are geared towards improving the living standards of Bayelsans through the sector.
While dislosing the determination of the State Government to implement its prosperity agenda for the state, the BYMEDA boss stressed that indigenes need to rejuvenate their entrepreneurial spirit and embrace the myriad of opportunities the sector offers through the interventionist schemes of the state government and other programmes from federal and international bodies.
He said as an agency established to support, encourage and develop the micro, small and medium enterprises in the state, BYMEDA is committed to ensuring that Bayelsans benefit fully from various grants, loans and other schemes of state and federal government as well as international organisations.
He however, noted that to benefit from the subsector, Bayelsa must engage in or plan to create sustainable career paths in the Micro, Small and Medium enterprises.
BYMEDA was established by the Bayelsa State Micro-finance and Enterprises Development Agency Law 2014 to
promote the development of Micro, Small and Medium scale enterprise and facilitate financing strategic agricultural programmes in Bayelsa State.
