The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri on Thursday challenged members of his New Media Team to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
He spoke in Yenagoa while declaring open a one-day orientation training programme for them, with the theme: “Effective Public Management As Catalyst For Development in a Digital Age”.
Governor Diri stated that the importance of training cannot be overemphasized as it will expose them to modern techniques of social media practice and usage.
He said he approved the training because of the need to build the capacity of the aides and lauded the Director General of the State New Media, Mr. Kola Oredipe, for coming up with the idea and also for his leadership which he said has impacted positively on governance in the state.
Earlier, Oredipe had explained that the training was to serve as a refresher course for the new media aides and that the resource persons were carefully selected.
He assured that after the training programme, the aides will be better equipped with more knowledge and robust skill to effectively carry out their duties in line with the prosperity administration’s agenda.
A senior lecturer in Development Communication in the Department of Linguistics and Communication, University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Christopher Ochonogor, delivered the lead paper.
The training also featured sessions on creative writing, press photography, personal branding/reputation management as well as team building in public information management.
Our correspondent reports that operational tools like android phones and power banks were handed to the new media aides to support them in discharging their duties.
