Brazil and Barcelona legend, Ronaldinho has lost his 71-year-old mother to Coronavirus after she contracted the deadly virus in December 2020.
According to local media, Miguelina Eloi Assis dos Santos reportedly passed away in Brazil over the weekend due to coronavirus-related complications.
She was hospitalized at Me de Dues Hospital in her hometown of Porto Alegre in December last year but could not survive the deadly virus.
The Brazilian had disclosed to the public last December that his mother had contracted coronavirus and was being hospitalised. His message had read:
“Dear friends, my mother has COVID and we are fighting so that she recovers soon. She is in intensive care, receiving the best possible treatment. I would like to thank everyone in advance for all of the positive energy you always send. With love. Stay strong, mum”.
Since her demise, the global football community has been sending messages of condolence to the superstar. Lionel Messi’s message on his Instagram page reads: in his Instagram reads “Ronnie I have no words, I can’t believe it. Just sending you a lot of strength and a big hug for you and the whole family. I’m very sorry, rest in peace
”Messi showed his support for Ronaldinho after his mother lost her battle with COVID-19.

In their message, French giants, Paris Saint-Germain had said:
“Paris Saint-Germain extends its deepest condolences to Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto following the death of their mother. All our support in this moment filled with sadness’.
