The crisis rocking the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), took a new dimension on Thursday as the lawmaker representing Brass Constituency 1, in the state assembly, Hon. Charles Daniel decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Hon. Daniel is the representative of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva in the assembly.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the assembly Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the lawmaker stated that he left the APC because of sharp division and factionalization.
He said the APC has been enmeshed in series of internal wranglings due to leadership deficit, which has badly affected its popularity in the state.
The letter read; “I write to announce my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“This action and decision to leave my party (APC) is necessited by leadership crisis within the party hierarchy, “division and factionalization” in the APC, Bayelsa State Chapter, absence of “Rule of Law” and internal democracy amongst others in the Bayelsa State APC.
“Therefore, relying on Section 68 (1) (g), 222 and 229 of the 1999 Constitution, I formally announce my defection from the APC to the PDP and declare my total support and unflinching loyalty to the current Administration headed by His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“While thanking the RT. HON. Speaker and my Revered Colleagues for this opportunity, I bid farewell to my former party”.
Hon. Daniel took over the Brass Constituency 1 seat from Hon. Isreal Sunny-Goli, the APC lawmaker representing Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
