The police council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed Usman Alkali Baba as Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, who disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the meeting, said Baba was unanimously confirmed.
The minister said the Inspector General of Police has been in an acting capacity since the day of his inauguration on April 6, 2021, but from the meeting held at the statehouse, presided over by the president, has confirmed Usman Akali Baba today as Inspector Genera of Police.
Henceforth, new security architecture will be formed to tighten up the security challenges bedeviling the nation.
The president urged the Inspector General to put in all his techniques, gotten from training and experience throughout his career as a police officer, to put in substantive measures that will yield positive outcomes to restore the lives, property and peace of the nation.
Also urged him to work in synchrony with other security personnel like the DSS, NSCDC, Army, Navy, Airforce, Customs, Immigration, Road Safety even with mobile service providers to track down criminals, and also the National Identity Management (NIM) for good service delivery to the nation
