Popular broadcaster, Chinonso Theodore Ubah (alias Nonsonkwa) has clinched the ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to contest the upcoming House of Representatives poll to represent Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency.
In his acceptance speech on Tuesday, Nonsonkwa who expressed happiness at his emergence as candidate of the party said the journey to make the federal constituency better has begun.
He unfolded his three-point agenda which entails providing robust representation and working for the economic growth and prosperity of the constituency as well as protection of human rights of the people.
Nonsonkwa disclosed that he would establish a human rights peace committee whose members will offer pro bono legal services to indigenes whose rights have been violated anywhere in the world.
According to the candidate, the human rights peace committee becomes necessary owing to increasing cases of violation of rights of people from the constituency.
He said the committee will intervene in cases of indigenes of the constituency living abroad who are incarcerated unlawfully
The broadcaster assured that intimidation of people from the constituency would be a thing of the past as soon as he mounts the saddle as the committee will ensure no such thing happens unchallenged.
He also promised to arrest the increasing rate of unemployed persons in the constituency.
Nonsonkwo decried the situation whereby the constituency has about 35,000 unemployed youths who are roaming the streets without any means of livelihood.
To this end, he disclosed that he would raise Mbaike Economic and Skill Acquisition Committee (MESAC) which will see to the establishment of small scale enterprises in partnership with a foreign company.
In providing robust representation, he pledged to partner with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other federal agencies in the area of road construction in the constituency.
He identified roads he would intervene in to include roads Orie Mbieri- Amankuta Road,
T- Junction- Umuahii-Umuomumu-Atta Road, Akwakuma Junction-Umudagu-Timber market Road, Nworieubi-Ukwuorji Road, Umueze-Nkwo- Orodo-Amaukwu-Ogwa Road, Amakohia Ikeduru Road,Avuvu Road, Atta Road, Owu Amakohia Road, Akabo-Amankuta Road, Iho-Ubakuru Road and Egbeada Old Road.
In the area of core duty of a legislator, he said he would sponsor bills to criminalize delayed payment of salaries and pensions in Nigeria and create cottage industries in the 360 federal constituencies in Nigeria to be funded by a government agency under the ministry of Employment and Labour.
Others are bills to criminalize discrepancies in school fees of federal government institutions of learning; to amend, strengthen the fundamental human rights laws in Nigeria; to amend the old peoples law by pushing for allowance for the elderly and to push for the creation of an additional state in the south east.
The rest are bills to push for free medicare for all pregnant women and children from age 0 to 6 and the elderly from age 70; to push for resource control by states with commensurate percentage to the federal government and to resuscitate the oil drilling project at Ikeduru, Obazu and Ifakala.
He thanked the state chairman of ADC, Ignatius Nlem and the State Working Committee for making the party the one to beat in the federal constituency in 2023 polls.
