A broadcaster with Ozisa 96.1FM Owerri, Chinonso Uba popularly known as Nonsonkwa will on March 28 resume duty after serving a one-month ban slammed on him by National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Broadcaster
Theodore Chinonso Uba

Nonsonkwa announced his resumption in a post on his Facebook handle on Sunday, March 27.

He wrote; “The wait is over, Akuko Siri (newspaper review) bounces back tomorrow. Ndi six months suspension, how far… Let’s clap for Jesus”.

The NBC had sanctioned Uba in February for alleged unprofessional conduct on air while presenting his programme.

The commission had ordered him to undergo a short course on broadcasting ethics, which he allegedly breaches each time he was behind the microphone on air.

The Ozisa FM was also reportedly sanctioned for allowing Nonsonkwa free reign on air without calling him to order even after formal complaints were lodged at the station.

Our correspondent gathered that Nonsonkwa underwent a one-month course at the West African Media and Broadcasting Academy (WABMA), Enugu.

Meanwhile, a cross-section of the people has called on Nonsonkwa to exercise circumspection and professionalism as he resumes duty.

Ifeanyi Maduako in welcoming Nonsonkwa believed the broadcaster had been whipped into line by the ban.

Maduako therefore enjoined him to desist from being brazen in his comments on air.

He noted that the NBC would henceforth monitor him, stressing that any further breach of broadcasting code might earn him a lifetime ban.

Ken Nwanekwu also advised the broadcaster to exhibit professionalism this time in his presentation and draw a line between journalism and activism.

Nwanekwu also urged Nonsonkwa not to allow fans cheer him to his destruction.

Achor Goddey pointedly accused him of working for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by spreading deceitful propaganda against the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Joy Nwadike and Ndubest Joyce on their own part expressed happiness at Nonsonkwa’s resumption of duty, saying Imolites really missed him.

Listeners say Nonsonkwa’s presentation especially Akuko Siri has a uniqueness peculiar to him.

They however admonished him not to allow stardom becloud his sense of reasoning.
