President Muhammadu Buhari is to meet with the service chiefs and other security heads on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
The meeting on Tuesday is a follow up to a security meeting held on Friday, April 30, 2021. According to a Vanguard report, “the security meeting held on Friday and presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari with all the security heads in attendance will reconvene on Tuesday this week”.
The Friday meeting held at the First Lady Conference Room, Presidential Villa, Abuja and presided over by President Buhari, had in attendance, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Service Chiefs and other security heads.
The security meeting is coming on the heels of escalating security breaches across the country.
Following the security crisis in different parts of the country, stakeholders have been calling for urgent action from the President.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom had called for a security summit, the House of Representatives called for the immediate declaration of a state of emergency on security in the country.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not only lend its voice to the House of Representatives’ call for a state of emergency, it has called on Buhari to convoke a national conference on security, without delay.
Reverend Fr. Ejike Mbaka, Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu called on President Buhari to immediately resign. The outspoken cleric has also urged the House of Representatives to impeach the president if he fails to resign.
It is expected that the security meeting will come up with urgent, practical solutions as the country is at a crossroad with the escalating insecurity in the country.
