Ahead of the crunchy tie between English Premier League top notchers, Chelsea and Leicester City on Tuesday, May 18, Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has expressed regret over his side’s 0-1 FA Cup final loss to Leicester.
The German Chelsea tactician said having come as far as the final, losing in such a manner was painful.
He equally said in addition to being painful, the loss was very disappointing. He however said while the outcome of the FA Cup final was disappointing, their performance was not. This is an obvious thumbs up for his players.
According to him:
“It hurt us because once you reach a final you want to win.
“We were so close and overcame a huge opponent (Man City) in the semi-final. We had the feeling we deserved to be in the final and after the match we had the feeling we deserved to win.
“So we were hurt. We were disappointed about the result but not too disappointed about our performance”.
The FA Cup final on Saturday, May 15 was the second time this season Chelsea was coming against Leicester City and on both occasions the Foxes came out victorious.
No wonder therefore that Tuchel sees the encounter between both clubs tonight as the biggest game of Chelsea this season.
With Liverpool breathing down their neck, Chelsea and Leicester are looking to consolidate their top four position to secure Champions League action next season.
In addition to consolidating his team’s top four position, Tuchel sees today’s match as a huge opportunity for “revenge”.
Qualifying for Champions League football comes with massive financial benefit.
It is not clear if Chelsea will get the much sought-after revenge or if Leicester will be three times lucky, what is certain however is that the game will be a crunchy affair, even a grudge battle between the third and fourth placed teams looking to grab a Champions League spot next season.
