The Senate Committees on Defense and Army headed by Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and Ali Ndume are to screen the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.
Buhari had on Tuesday sent a letter to the National Assembly, requesting that Farouk Yahaya be confirmed as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The headquarters of the defense had on May 27, 2021 announced the appointment of Yahaya through a statement issued and signed by the acting spokesperson, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu.

The appointment came as a result of the death of the former Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru who died unfortunately in a plane crash around Kaduna International Airport.
While speaking at plenary yesterday, Ahmad Lawal, the Senate President, during plenary forwarded the request of the president to the committees on Defense and Army.
The Defence Committee headed by Senator Aliyu Wamakko was made mandatory to be the leader of the committee to screen the newly appointed army chief.
Born on January 5, 1966, Farouq is the 22nd Chief of Army Staff, climbing from the rank of a Major General in the Nigerian Army.
