The Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs, in Nembe local government area of Bayelsa state have raised the alarm over the disruption of a Federal Government project by some irate youths.
In a statement issued to newsmen, the chiefs alleged that the youths operating in the Agrisaba/ Obiata axis went to disrupt the Federal Government Zonal Intervention Road Project connecting Opume- Okoroba- Agrisaba and Ikensi communities.
In the statement which was signed by Chief D.I.Oriango Oruwari and Chief Ivory Fekoru, the chairman and Secretary of the council, they condemned the action of the youths and warned them to stop frustrating the laudable project.
The statement read in part, “A constituency project such as this is very rare, not only in terms of the vision behind it but also the tough courage, determination, passion and absolute patriotism on the part of the Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District. Chief Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.
“The senator is bringing this project not only for the socio economic wellbeing of the people of the area but by extension the entire Bayelsa state. Therefore, council uses this medium to advice the guardians/ parents to these youths to caution and restrain their wards not to further do anything that will hamper the smooth execution of this federal government project.
“We advise concerned youths with genuine grievances to channel them to the chiefs council or report to relevant law enforcement agencies for fair hearing and peaceful resolution.
“Consequently, having opened the doors to listen to the aggrieved parties, any individual or group who fails to utilize this opportunity and take further steps to frustrate this project, council will have no option than to invoke whatever legitimate measures to ensure that the project is not only protected but smoothly executed to its finishing point.
“The Opu-Nembe Council of Chiefs also thank President Mohammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly for the kind approval of the impactful project”.
