Muhammadu Buhari has given reasons why he chose Major General Farouk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff to replace Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a plane crash recently.
Criticisms about the president’s choice had been going round the nation as many felt that the South-east part of the country was being deliberately ignored in the appointment of security chiefs in the nation.
Buhari who spoke during an interview on Arise Tv stated that the region or federal character did not impose his choice, and that he rather picked Yahaya based on competence.
The president said, “I don’t know him”, adding that Yahaya has trained in different military academies in Nigeria and has participated in the fight against insurgence in the nation.
However, he promised the people that his administration is taking necessary measures to resolve the situation and get things back to normal.
The Nigerian president also spoke on his plans after leaving the sit of the president, saying that he has never forgotten about his farm and cows so he will go back to them after leaving the Aso Rock Villa.
