There seem to be strong speculation that Uche Secondus may not be the man to lead the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP, to the promise land, come 2023 presidential elections.
The Nation reports that the National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party have had series of back and forth agitations about the leadership of party under the supervision of Prince Uche Secondus.
A close source of the PDP, revealed that in recent times, there have been moves to unseat the current national chairman, Uche Secondus on the grounds of his incompetence to pilot the affairs of the party and also position itself strategically as the major opposition party in the country.
Reports also gathered that the caucus of the PDP has severally decried the inability of Secondus to hold the ruling All Progressive Congress by “the balls” by hitting on their prominent inadequacies in since it’s inception into power in 2015.
The source who pleaded anonymous said:
Many of the NWC members are unhappy with him (Secondus). He has not lived up to expectations. And we’re Afraid that our great party would not make the expected impact in 2023 if we retain Secondus as national chairman.
Also buttressing on the constant woes and flaw of the chairman, the source also disclosed that Uche Secondus was also answering questions relating to financial misappropriation of party funds which he has not been able to account for.
He has been unable to manage the simmering crisis in the party, some chapters in the north are barely hanging on by a thread. Even in the south west, some prominent members are at war with each other, and the only reason the party has not imploded there is because of their strong faith in the party.
Secondus has also failed to manage the situation. We think he just has to leave so we can reposition the party for 2023,
This would not be drawn far from Secondus’s act of lifting the suspension tendered to some house of rep members for their alleged anti-party role played that led to the emergence of Speaker of the house Femi Gbajamilimiala and deputy speaker, they were, Toby Okechukwu, Adekoya Abdul-Majid,
Gideon Gwadi, Ndudi Elumelu, Wole Oke, Lynda Ikpeazu, Anayo Edwin.
The PDP by its political calculation had presented Kingsley Chinda for the position of minority leader and Chukwuka Onyema as Deputy Minority Leader. Yakubu Barde was nominated as Minority Whip and Muraina Ajibola as Deputy Minority Whip.
However in a rather shocking turnaround of events, it was alleged that romanced the speaker of the house to endorse the candidature of Ndudi Elumelu and Toby Okechukwu as Minority and Deputy Minority leaders respectively. And Gideon Gwani was picked as Minority Whip and Adesegun Adekoya as Deputy Minority Whip as against the PDP’s original plan and agreement.
The action made the PDP slam suspension on Elumelu, Wole Oke, Lynda Ikpeazu, Anayo Edwin, Gideon Gwadi, Toby Okechukwu and Adekoya Abdul-Majid, a move that was reversed by Secondus without the approval of the National Working Commitee (NWC).
It will be recalled that there has been some bad blood currently running between Prince Secondus and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, while it is said that Wike possesses one of the strongest voices in the PDP, these odds may not be in the favor of current chairman, Uche Secondus.
The meeting with National Working Committee of the party that ended in gridlock, was highly inconclusive as some leaders of the party seem to be extending a shield of protection around Secondus while some members of the working committee have highly recommended his removal, saying he isn’t in the capacity to lead the party to the political arena come 2023.
