As the old adage says, “there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics, just permanent interests”
This could be playing out today as political dignitaries across party lines trooped into Ondo State to celebrate Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as he was sworn in as governor of the state for a second term.
Akeredolu who flew the flag of the All Progressive Congress, beats both his former Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi from the Zenith labour Party and his major opposition, Eyitayo Jegede from the Peoples Democratic Party in the last Ondo Guber election was inaugurated today as Governor of the State.
However Gov. Akeredolu while expressing gratitude to his esteemed guests for making it to the occasion, particularly singled out his counterpart from the opposition party the PDP, and also Governor of Edo State, Gov. Godwin Obaseki.
Akeredolu in his speech promised to ensure that the Edo State Governor returns back to the APC.
It will be recalled that embattled former APC stalwart Governor Obaseki was elected as governor under the platform of the APC, but defected to seek asylum in the PDP after his Guber ticket was allegedly snatch from him on the grounds of academic irregularities in his credentials.
Obaseki who eventually won his second term elections after he was endorsed by the PDP will be one of the few Governors in Nigeria to defy the laws of god-fatherism in Nigeria’s politics.
The attendance of Gov. Obaseki to the inauguration ceremony of his APC counterpart has however raised some eyebrows.
The big question is Could Obaseki be finding his way back to the APC?
