The management of Bayelsa United Football Club has appealed to its supporters to comply strictly with the Nigeria National League (NNL) directive on covid-19.
The club says the directive to play behind close doors in line with the conditions prescribed by the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19 and Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development still subsist.
The management of the club in a statement on Thursday noted that the latest appeal to the fans became imperative following a new circular sent by the governing body of the second tier league.
The statement informed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) COVID-19 committee has directed that any stadium that violates the Covid-19 protocol rules would henceforth be closed down.
It added that the closure will be indefinite and that appropriate sanction would be meted out to the State Football Association.
The club enjoined all stakeholders and football enthusiasts to accept the present reality of the pandemic which has prevented fans all over the world from entering match venues.
It maintained that the decision for fans not to watch the team is not intentional but a global practice caused by the ravaging pandemic.
The management also appealed to the fans to follow the team while at home via the club’s social media platforms to avoid banishment from the Samson Siasia stadium.
Such banishment it says, will impede the chances of the team gaining promotion to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League.
