The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the use of Covid-19 vaccine, Oxford/AstraZeneca in Nigeria.
Dr. Mojisola Adeyeye, the NAFDAC Director General disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, February 18, 2021.
The NAFDAC boss said that they got the dossier of the vaccine a week ago and the safety and efficiency of the vaccine have been assessed by NAFDAC’s safety committee, reports dailypost.ng.
According to her, the vaccine can be stored at between 2 to 8-degree centigrade.
The vaccine was recently endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, also called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 or AZD1222, is a viral vector vaccine.
Noting that there are three other vaccines that are undergoing evaluation, Adeyeye revealed that the evaluation on Oxford/AstraZeneca shows that the vaccine is effective against the UK variant of the virus, which has been reported in Nigeria.
Dr. Adeyeye, who stated that the South African variant has not been found in our country, said NAFDAC has over 30 herbal medicines going through review for listing.
