There will be a top of the table Serie A clash between city rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan on Sunday. This is the third time the both teams will clash this season to continue a fierce rivalry between strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku as champions Juventus try to close the gap.
Antonio Conte’s Inter took top spot after Lukaku scored two goals in their 3-1 win over Lazio, to put them one point ahead of Milan whop went down to second after losing to Spezia last weekend.
Juventus who lost to Napoli last weekend and also lost to Fc Porto in their Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie during the week, will be looking for a confidence booster as they take on bottom side Crotone this weekend.
Inter have the advantage of looking fresher and sharper as they have been eliminated from European action this season.
However, Stefano Pioli’s Milan will return to Italy after they couldn’t get a win for conceding two late goals in their 2-2 draw Europa League game against Red Star Belgrade. A match that saw midfielder Ismael Bennacer injured.
Milan coach Stefano Pioli said,
“Against Spezia it was not the real AC Milan. The important thing is to turn the page,”
This will be the third Milan derby this season. Ac Milan won the first game 2-1.
According to Guardian, Inter won the second derby which was a feisty Italian Cup quarter-final by the same scoreline, the game saw a brutal clash between Ibrahimovic and Lukaku trying to fight and trading insults, the Swede was later sent off in the game.
Inter have won five of their last six meetings.
If AC Milan wins the game this weekend, it will be the first time they will be doing the double over Inter since 2020-11 season, thereby going on to lift the title that season.
Sadly, the Turin giants have a huge problem in their hands as the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Arthur, Juan Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata are all uncertain due to injury..
In other news, Champions League rivals Atalanta and Napoli will play against each other on Sunday, before the Bergamo side host Real Madrid in this year’s elite European tournament.
